Honor an outstanding volunteer today for the 20th Anniversary Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards, Friday, April 27, 2012. All nominees receive a complimentary invitation to the event. Nomination forms are available online and are due at 3 p.m., Thursday, February 9 (Deadline Extended). Only forms submitted through the Volunteer Fairfax website will be accepted. FREE Tax Preparation
On Sunday, February 26, professional services firm Deloitte LLP, working in partnership with Fairfax County Department of Family Services (DFS) and Volunteer Fairfax, is hosting a Community Tax Assistance Day at the SkillSource Center in Falls Church, VA. Deloitte will be providing free tax preparation for low-income individuals and families. Eligible participants are those who make up to $50,000 per year. Trained IRS professionals will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on a first come, first serve basis, and childcare is provided on-site. Submit a Project for Global Youth Service Day
Join Volunteer Fairfax at Global Youth Service Day, on Saturday, April 21, for its 2nd annual Fairfax area day of service. Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning. Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth. GYSD is celebrated each year in over 100 countries. Submit an application to benefit from a volunteer project. Applications are due February 17.
