Mission: Child help USA Children's Center of Virginia will provide onsite child abuse assessments, investigations and treatment to Virginia children. We will also continue to deliver prevention training to children and train professionals how to recognize and respond to the signs and symptoms of abuse. Mission: Provides people 18 years and older with an opportunity to learn enough English and academic skills that are necessary to enroll in one of Fairfax County Public Schools Adult Alternative High Schools. Our 90 students are primarily Latin American and whether due to poverty, warfare or family dislocation, they were unable to complete their secondary education in their native countries (a large number were unable to complete primary education as well). Our program also has sites at Falls Church, Stuart HS and Springfield, Lee HS. However, I would like to pilot a program at our site first.
Project(s): - Volunteers will tutor English as a second language students who are over 18 years old. Our students grade level range from 1st through 8th in the subjects of English, Science, Social Studies and Math. Tutoring would be one night a week lasting 45 minutes to an hour a session. Volunteers can come either at 7:00 or 8:30 pm. The teachers would provide materials for tutors and tutees. Our students are highly motivated, hard working and an absolute pleasure to teach. I’m sure that volunteers and students will find a mutually rewarding experience. This organization would like a corporation or group to become involved on a regular basis tutoring the students.
