Ernst & Young East Central Connect Day
The fourth annual Ernst & Young Connect Day was held on Friday, September 24, 2010.
Through Volunteer Fairfax's BusinessLink program, the Center managed more than 130 registered Ernst & Young employees who volunteered with three nonprofits in the D.C. metro area. Volunteers were able to leave their work behind at the office and make an impact on the local community by conversing with English as a Second Language (ESL) students, removing invasive plants and beautifying a homeless teen shelter. In one day, these volunteers logged more than 780 volunteer hours.
2010 Ernst & Young Connect Day Accomplishments:
- Conversed with more than 100 intermediate and advanced level ESL students
- Created approximately 400 holiday thank you cards for ESL students and volunteers
- Assembled ESL curriculum class posters for use by ESL teachers
- Cleaned up and organized the outside and inside of a homeless teen shelter including: painting offices and hallways, scrubbing floors and walls, staining an access ramp and benches and removing overgrown plants and shrubbery
- Worked in four collections at an arboretum by removing invasive plants and ivy, weeding, stabilizing a trail and pole pruning
