Thank you to everyone who participated in GYSD 2012! Over 700 youth and families volunteered at 20 nonprofit and government agencies throughout the area. Thank you to the participating agencies: The Arc of Northern Virginia, Clermont Park, Cub Run RECenter, Ellanor Lawrence Park, Fairfax CASA, Fairfax Choral Society, Fairfax ReLeaf, Falstaff Park, Friends of Accotink Creek, Greenspring, Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center of Northern Virginia, Maddie's Blankets, Northern Virginia Family Services, Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, Nottoway Park, Oakton Library, Pohick Stream Valley Park, Royal Lake Park, Sherwood Regional Library and Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.
Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning. Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth. GYSD is celebrated each year in over 100 countries and is organized through Youth Service America.
Each year, millions of children and youth around the world work together with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, volunteer and national service programs, government agencies, faith communities, and other individuals to address the world’s most critical issues and change their communities on Global Youth Service Day.
