In the summer of 2000, ExxonMobil, in partnership with Volunteer Fairfax, introduced its Community Summer Jobs Program (CSJP) to Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. Founded in 1971, this program provides full-time college students with an eight-week paid summer internship to assist nonprofit organizations and gain experience at agencies with diverse mission areas. CSJP also offers training to organizations for recruiting and selecting interns and provides assistance with organizing their summer internships. ExxonMobil CSJP interns help increase agencies' capacities while giving students the opportunity to learn more about nonprofit careers. To read more about the benefits for interns, please click here.
The grant application consists of two parts: an online application, made available on the Volunteer Fairfax website to eligible agencies, and supporting materials. Agencies designated 501(c)(3) by the IRS and located in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. are eligible for the grants. An orientation session held each October is also mandatory for any new agencies interested in applying for the grant.
The grant application has closed. For information on how to attend the October 2012 Information Session to Apply, please contact Christine Coffey.
Selected agencies will be announced February 2012.
Once grants have been awarded to the nonprofit organizations, the agencies themselves are responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring their summer interns by April 27, 2012. Interns must be enrolled undergraduates who have completed their freshman year and will be returning to college full-time in the fall of 2011. Students apply directly to the agencies of their choice. Selected agencies and job descriptions from the past 2011 cycle are available here. Agencies are also encouraged to recruit using university websites, job search websites, and other resources.
