Valentine's Challenge - Saturday, January 16
The annual VALENTINE’S CHALLENGE, an event organized through VF’s Volunteers for Change Program, gathers 450-500 volunteers to make valentines for children and youth in foster care or who have recently aged out. This year’s event will be remote, with an opportunity for participants to engage in a virtual event to learn more about the impact of their service. Card making kits will be provided to volunteers in advance and finished cards returned to VF for mailing to children through the Fairfax County Department of Family Services and Foster Care to Success.
Give Together - Monday, January 18
Give Together helps to foster volunteerism in the next generation particularly elementary-aged children. Last year, Give Together brought together over 600 volunteers (particularly young families) to complete projects for six local nonprofits. This year, the projects will be done from the safety of a volunteer’s home. Give Together will provide families with a Volunteering Tool Kit to jumpstart their volunteerism journey. Participants will receive: A children’s workbook describing Dr. King’s legacy and the importance of civic engagement. A resource guide listing information on participating in local nonprofit mission areas. Supplies and instructions for 2-3 projects, as well as other project ideas, in the following focus areas: racial and social justice, children in foster care, food insecurity, environment, homelessness, animals, the elderly, and veterans. An invitation to post on the VF-branded Kudoboard.
