2025 Braddock District Community Champion – Bryan Campbell
Bryan Campbell has volunteered over 250 hours in 2024 and contributed a decade of dedicated service to environmental and community causes in the Braddock District and Fairfax County. Known for his insight, thoughtfulness, and expertise, Bryan is a trusted leader on environmental issues affecting the region.
As President of the Friends of Long Branch Stream Valley, Bryan collaborates closely with Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services. He leads efforts to recruit residents for a stakeholder team that reviews watershed assessments and selects projects to improve water quality as part of the Long Branch Central Watershed Management Area initiative. Bryan’s work includes organizing educational activities, community discussions, clean-ups, invasive plant removal, citizen science, environmental assessments, restoration projects, and land use reviews. His role as liaison to homeowner associations and other groups fosters trust and partnership throughout the community.
Bryan also serves on two critical County boards. As a member of the Fairfax County Environmental Quality Advisory Council (EQAC), he helps review environmental policies and offers recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, supporting long-term ecosystem health. On the Fairfax County Wetlands Board, Bryan contributes to regulatory oversight of land-disturbing activities in tidal wetlands, balancing property owner needs with environmental protection and compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
For over ten years, Bryan has led the Follow the Water program, providing hands-on watershed education to students at Little Run and Canterbury Woods Elementary Schools, teaching them about drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
Beyond these roles, Bryan supports local schools, houses of worship, scouting, and athletic organizations by encouraging volunteer participation and leveraging diverse community strengths.
Professionally, Bryan applies his 20 years of experience in environmental planning and land development as a Planning Specialist for the Virginia Department of Transportation, ensuring best practices for major projects across Northern Virginia.
Bryan’s passion for spreading environmental awareness and stewardship, combined with his professional expertise and community leadership, make him a vital champion for sustainability and quality of life in the Braddock District and beyond.
