Lindsay and Toby Latham exemplify the spirit of selfless service, devoting their time, talents, and energy to building a more inclusive and supportive Fairfax for individuals with disabilities. When faced with a life-changing diagnosis in their own family, the Lathams didn’t retreat—they reached outward, becoming a pillar of strength for others navigating similar challenges. Whether responding to a call from a fellow parent or stepping into broader advocacy roles, they are often the first to offer guidance, hands-on help, and unwavering support.
Toby, an employment and disability rights attorney, has dedicated countless volunteer hours to advancing disability justice. He serves on the Board of The Arc of Northern Virginia and previously spent three years on the Fairfax County School Board’s Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities. Through pro bono work, he has helped families navigate legal complexities, ensuring access to education, employment, and essential care.
Lindsay, a performing arts professional, uses her creativity to strengthen community outreach and events. She plays a vital role in organizing fundraising galas for The Arc of Northern Virginia, crafting immersive experiences—from beautiful centerpieces to seamless event execution. She is also a dedicated advocate for individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), helping them find and use their voices with pride.
Together, the Lathams have gone beyond individual support to drive systemic change. Collaborating with Delegate Tran, they successfully advanced statewide AAC training standards for educators. On the national stage, they were invited by Senator Booker to advocate for protecting Medicaid—efforts that helped safeguard vital disability services.
Their advocacy, storytelling, and relentless compassion have left a lasting impact on Fairfax. Thanks to Lindsay and Toby, thousands of residents now have greater access to opportunities, resources, and a true sense of belonging.
“The Lathams are the absolute gold standard in the disability community. They not only fight every day for their son but fight to make the lives of every other Fairfax family navigating the disability space easier. They are selfless, passionate, and driven to make the world a better place for all, one act of kindness at a time.”
