
Alfred Alexander Schenck, affectionately known as Al, is a dedicated community leader and volunteer whose service spans more than five decades. In 2024 alone, he contributed 1,609 hours of volunteer time, continuing a legacy of impactful service that reflects his deep commitment to the Sully District and Fairfax County.
Al has been an active and inspiring force in his community for over 50 years, known not only for his knowledge of the area but for his ability to listen, engage, and mobilize others. Whether addressing local needs or advocating for improved resources, he consistently leads by example and encourages civic involvement.
For the past 20 years, Al has served the Newgate community in numerous roles, including HOA president and vice president, chair of the Architectural Control Committee, and coordinator of the Neighborhood Watch Program. He also represents the community on the Fairfax County Sully District Police Citizen’s Advisory Committee, helping bridge communication between residents and law enforcement.
As a Deacon of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Al has provided 53 years of service across several ministries. His work in the Food Distribution Ministry supports over 300 families each month, and he plays a key role in delivering food to local Fairfax County Public Schools. He also helped the church secure FEMA grant funding following a thorough security and threat assessment he coordinated with local police.
Al has dedicated 12 years to American Legion Post 1995, where he serves as Chaplain, offering spiritual support and participating in veterans’ funeral services. He also helps organize the Post’s Flag Retirement Ceremony, partnering with Fairfax County Fire Station 38 and Boy Scout Troop 1995.
Al was selected to join the Centreville Planning Study Task Force, where he contributes to long-term planning strategies for the Centreville area, helping shape its vision for the next 20 years.
Al Schenck’s leadership and volunteerism have made a lasting impact across Sully District and Fairfax County—from supporting veterans and families in need to fostering civic collaboration and community safety. A model of leadership and service, Al continues to make Sully a stronger, more connected, and compassionate place to live.
