On Sunday, February 22, Patrick Brooke made a split-second decision that saved lives. Coming upon a crash on I-495 East with no first responders yet on the scene, he didn’t hesitate. He turned around, ran toward danger, and forced entry into a smoke-filled vehicle. In those critical moments, a mother placed her baby into his care as flames began to take hold. With the help of another Good Samaritan, Patrick helped bring all four occupants, one baby and three adults, to safety, moving them away just as the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

This is what courage looks like, not planned or practiced, but instinctive and selfless. Patrick acted when it mattered most, without regard for his own safety, and because of that, lives were saved.
