Federal changes are affecting how some Virginians qualify for and maintain Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid benefits. For certain recipients, working, participating in an approved education or training program, or completing volunteer service may be required to maintain eligibility.
Volunteer Fairfax is collaborating with Fairfax County Government to help affected residents understand the volunteer-service option and connect with meaningful roles that may satisfy applicable eligibility requirements.
How Volunteer Fairfax Can Help
Volunteer Fairfax is working with Fairfax County Government and community partners to help residents find structured volunteer opportunities that can count toward applicable SNAP or Medicaid requirements.
Our role includes:
- Connecting residents with volunteer opportunities at participating nonprofits and public agencies
- Helping residents identify ongoing roles that fit their schedules, interests and abilities
- Providing information about tools that volunteers can use to maintain a record of their service
Volunteer Fairfax does not determine whether an individual is subject to a work requirement, how many hours an individual must complete or whether a particular activity will be accepted. Residents should confirm these details with their benefits specialist before beginning volunteer service.
