Greater Oakton Community Association (GOCA)
Lauren Crum and Shelley Deutch are the driving force behind the Greater Oakton Community Association, an all-volunteer nonprofit that has transformed community engagement in Oakton over the past six years. Together, they have contributed more than 1,300 volunteer hours in 2025 alone, growing GOCA into a trusted and effective organization with nearly 700 subscribers and a strong public presence.
By actively listening to residents and turning community priorities into action, Lauren and Shelley have strengthened connections between residents, local businesses, and Fairfax County agencies. They provide timely information through newsletters and social media, organize community events, and advocate for improvements that enhance daily life in Oakton.
Their impact is visible across the community. They led efforts to revitalize Oakton Community Park, transforming it into a vibrant gathering space for recreation, events, and connection. They have supported local businesses through initiatives such as community directory and Restaurant Weeks, helping promote economic vitality. In collaboration with Fairfax County agencies, including the Park Authority, they have advanced improvements to public spaces and expanded community programming.
Their leadership also extends beyond Oakton through the creation of the Historic Schoolhouses of Northern Virginia Association, benefiting communities across Fairfax and Loudoun Counties.
Through their dedication and hands-on leadership, Lauren and Shelley have fostered a stronger sense of community, increased civic engagement, and enhanced quality of life in Oakton. Their work continues to inspire residents to connect, participate, and invest in their community.
“Lauren and Shelley exemplify true community champions. Their dedication and leadership have made Oakton more connected, vibrant, and engaged, while creating lasting improvements that will benefit residents for years to come. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to the community.”
