COL (Ret.) Arnold “Arnie” Daxe has dedicated more than 16 years to serving both military and civilian communities across the region. He has a deep commitment to honoring veterans, supporting public service initiatives, and strengthening community connections.
Arnie plays a central role in welcoming veterans through Honor Flight Chicago, which brings veterans to Washington, D.C. for a day of recognition and remembrance. For the past eight years, he has coordinated large-scale airport greetings at Dulles, organizing bands, honor guards, color guards, and community leaders to create a meaningful and memorable experience for more than 100 visiting veterans each month. He also volunteers with the USO at Dulles Airport and supports TSA operations, further demonstrating his ongoing service to the military community.
Beyond his veteran-focused work, Arnie leads and supports numerous local initiatives. He manages a Free Library Program that provides accessible books for travelers of all ages and works closely with regional park systems, including the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and the National Park Service. His contributions include bike patrols, trail maintenance, and environmental stewardship. He also leads a recycling program with Fairfax County Parks, significantly increasing participation and impact.
Arnie’s community involvement extends to public safety and youth engagement. He has served as Chair of the Fairfax County Police Department’s Citizen Advisory Committee and remains an active supporter of department programs. He also participates in elementary school reading programs and contributes to regional efforts such as Wreaths Across America.
Through his leadership, energy, and dedication, Arnie has positively impacted veterans, families, and residents of all ages. His service reflects a lifelong commitment to community, country, and connection.
“Arnie is and has been an example of the spirit of the Springfield District, always giving back, always making lives better. It is my honor to recognize him as the Springfield Community Champion, and I know our community is better because of him.“
