Jakelin Soriano Lake

Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw writes, “We are very fortunate to have Jakelin Soriano Lake in our community. As the parent liaison for Braddock Elementary, Jakelin developed strong ties to families in the Annandale area. After retiring from Fairfax County Public Schools, Jakelin’s devotion to the community drives her to keep networking and continuing these relationships to support families in need by connecting them to services and by creating partnerships with area businesses and organizations. Jakelin continues to impress us with her energy and creativity, and we are excited to name her the Community Champion for Braddock District.”

Jakelin Soriano Lake is a Parent Liaison at Braddock Elementary School (ES).  She has worked tirelessly to help build a strong school/community partnership with parents as well as community organizations to support the needs of the Braddock ES community.  Jakelin led the Community Outreach team at Braddock ES to ensure that all children would be able to fully participate in their educational experiences without worrying about food, clothing, shelter, and health issues due to living conditions.

Jakelin has established numerous relationships with faith-based organizations and business partners to be able to bring resources and support to the families at Braddock ES. During the height of the pandemic, she was able to organize and bring together volunteers, faith, and business communities to assist the Braddock ES families and provided free groceries, clothing, and information about Health Services while schools were closed due to COVID-19.  The families during that time felt supported and the children were able to participate in online learning because they felt safe and had the necessary materials to learn.

Since her retirement, Jakelin continues to provide community outreach support to the families of Braddock ES as well as residents in the Heritage/Annandale and Falls Church community.  She will continue to bring together community partners by serving as a community liaison with B-Thrifty – Project B-Green and assisting them with their community outreach across the DMV area.
