Dr. Iona Spikes is the Director of Equity and Family Engagement for Fairfax County Public Schools. Over the last year, Dr. Spikes has worked on the Leadership Development Team within OPLFE. In this role, she managed the School-based Administrators’ Induction Programs, coached school leaders, and collaborated with various teams in OPLFE to create and facilitate professional learning. Serving on numerous committees such as the Equity Team, Diverse Hiring & Retention, and the ACPM Core Planning Team, Iona has demonstrated her commitment to keeping the Equity at the Center through her contributions and thought leadership.

Shortly before joining FCPS, Iona spent time serving as a Diversity Equity and Inclusion consultant and organizational development specialist for corporations and non-profit organizations. Her work with Baltimore Gas & Electric, the District of Columbia Metro Police, and Hope Baltimore centered on creating racially inclusive & safe workspaces, identifying actions to ensure gender equity, and designing and implementing strategies to promote community care and development.

As an educational leader, she has served as an Executive Principal for the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (UAE), a School Support Specialist (Title I/21st Century), and Principal in Baltimore City Public Schools. Dr. Spikes has been recognized for leading a Model Turn Around School, earning the designation of a High Value High School, and establishing a Promising Community School Model (21st Century Community Learning Grant).

Dr. Spikes earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University, a Masters in Instructional Design and Technology at Walden University, Masters in Educational Leadership and Secondary Social Studies Education at Widener University, and her Bachelors in Political Science at Temple University. Throughout her career, Dr. Spikes has been an ambassador for equity and an advocate for children and families, and is looking forward to looking, listening, learning, and growing with the entire Fairfax County community.
