Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”. Through Volunteer Fairfax’s signature event, MLK Jr. Week of Service, we seek to answer this question and honor King’s legacy by uniting the community through two opportunities.
The week will start with a Community Conversation webinar about “Responding to Our Community’s Mental Health Challenges: A Role for Volunteering,” on January 22 followed by a family friendly in-person day of service, Give Together, on Saturday January 25 at the James Lee Community Center (2855 Annandale Rd, Falls Church, VA 22042) where we will work together to complete service projects to benefit several local nonprofit organizations. The service projects are well suited for ages 5-18; younger kids may need some assistance from a family member. There will also be two Financial Literacy Workshops offered at Give Together. One workshop is designed to equip young participants (grades 3-5) with basic financial decision-making skills and the second workshop prepares older students (grades 9-12) for real-world financial responsibilities by understanding paychecks and taxes. If you would like to attend one of the workshops, sign up will be available during check-in on January 25. Registration links are below for each opportunity.
