Emergencies don’t wait for a convenient moment, and neither should we. This September, Volunteer Fairfax joins communities nationwide in recognizing National Preparedness Month, a time to reflect, plan, and take action. Whether it’s assembling an Emergency Kit, checking on neighbors, or learning how to support first responders, preparedness stars and ends with each of us. Throughout the month, we’ll spotlight ways to build resilience, foster inclusion and ensure that when the unexpected happens, our community is ready to respond. Volunteer Fairfax is proud to lead the charge in mobilizing volunteers during times of crisis, in partnership with the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and Security (DEMS).
Step Up When It Matters: Discover the Volunteer Emergency Team (VET)
When disaster strikes, whether it’s a natural event, public health emergency, or unexpected disruption, Volunteer Fairfax’s Volunteer Emergency Team (VET) is trained and ready to respond. VET members are among the first on the call list to assist, providing essential support across Fairfax County. With basic training and flexible roles, volunteers help meet urgent needs and strengthen community resilience.
Join us online on September 24 at 7:00 PM for a dynamic one-hour information session introducing VET. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or just beginning your journey in service, you’ll gain valuable insights into how VET operates, the role Volunteer Fairfax plays in emergency coordination, and the many ways you can make a meaningful impact when our community needs it most.
