Since the early 2010s, Volunteer Fairfax (VF) has partnered with Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church to provide them with volunteers who perform critical home repairs at no charge for low-income owners and nonprofit organizations. This has been a wonderful opportunity for retirees to put their special skills and years of experience to good use.

Lou Wood, retired from the field of aviation electronics, pushed Rebuilding Together to add their highest impact repair: installing electric stair lifts. One 83-year-old widow told Rebuilding Together, “The stair lift changed my whole life. I don’t have to crawl up the stairs anymore. I feel safe because you care.” Patti Klein, Rebuilding Together’s Executive Director, says, “Volunteer Fairfax’s ‘stamp of approval’ on our volunteers helpsovercome some homeowners’ skepticism that our free home repairs are too good to be true.”  VF looks forward to many more years of high-impact collaboration with Rebuilding Together.
