(Fairfax, VA – October 21, 2023) – Hundreds of area residents will be out and about “doing good” on Saturday, October 21, 2023, as part of VolunteerFest, a county-wide day of service.  VolunteerFest is held every year in the fall and encourages anyone interested in volunteerism to get out and make a connection with a local organization. 

WHAT: VolunteerFest is a county-wide initiative fostering volunteerism.  For nearly 50 years, Volunteer Fairfax has been mobilizing people and resources to meet regional community needs.  We have partnered with a lots of area nonprofits to provide a variety of projects serving diverse community needs and mission areas including food insecurity, learning garden maintenance, park clean-ups, encouragement cards, emergency response, animal welfare and more!

WHEN: The event takes place on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

  • Support Daniels Run Elementary Living Classroom with Land and Waters

This in-person event supports environmental education.  Volunteers will plant native plants, lay down mulch, weed garden beds and more.  Register here.

Time:  9:30-12:30  

  • Storm Drain Labeling and Education with Northern Virginia Soil & Water Conservation

This in-person project has an education and environment mission.  Volunteers will label storm drains.  Storm drain labeling is an effective, low-cost method of educating residents about water quality.  Register here.

  • Student Art Initiative Community Project at John R. Lewis High School

Support students and staff in the John R. Lewis Leadership Program use art to create messages of positivity and belonging in connection with the legacy of the school’s namesake, John R. LewisRegister here.

Time: 10:00-12:00

WHY: VolunteerFest connects dedicated volunteers to community need and introduces first-time volunteers to nonprofits in the community.

VolunteerFest increases the capacity of the nonprofits through volunteer power.

VolunteerFestinvites individuals, families, friends, neighbors, colleagues to give back to our community.

VolunteerFest is an opportunity for students to earn important service-learning hours.
