Every year, as part of Volunteer Fairfax’s MLK, Jr. Weekend of Service, we host the “Valentines Challenge” where volunteers across the county produce thousands of valentines to bring cheer to populations in our community who are deserving of messages of hope and encouragement. Last year, we produced over 10,000 valentines and 7,000 were delivered to frontline medical workers county-wide through the INOVA health system.

This year, it’s the educators’ turn to be recognized. We teamed up with FCPS to deliver valentines to 42 Title I schools across the county to send a powerful message of thanks and support to teachers, administrators, and supporting staff who have been doing their best to educate our kids in the face of unimaginable circumstances during the pandemic.

This volunteer activity culminated with a handoff of almost 7000 valentines to Ellen Mukai, Principal of  Brookfield Elementary School on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

Serving to make this day even more special, was a Proclamation from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors declaring February 8, 2022, as We Love FCPS Day #welovefcpsday.

Thanks especially to the volunteers who made these “love cards” as part of VF’s annual Valentine’s Challenge. We are grateful to our supporters including Kaiser Permanente, Leidos, AT&T, Deloitte, Accenture, CGI, Patent First, Transurban, Wegmans Food Markets, Williams, and the Virginia Service Foundation.
