Global Volunteer Month celebrates volunteers who drive real and sustained change in communities around the world. All April long, you can shine a light on everyday people who are working to support their communities. As Volunteer Fairfax’s 50th Anniversary approaches, we plan to celebrate by recognizing the good deeds of volunteers all month!

Volunteer Fairfax’s volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Without their enthusiasm and support, we couldn’t fulfill our mission to engage people and organizations to amplify their community impact. In 2023, our volunteers contributed 18,437 hours of volunteer time which provided over $600k in service value. Plus, we are also off to an excellent start in 2024. Take Give Together for example, our family volunteer event honoring MLK Day. Together, we accomplished many great projects for local nonprofits including:
• Packed 400 Student Emergency Preparedness Kits for Fairfax County’s Department of Emergency Response.
• Made 400 Valentine Cupcakes (with warm socks) with Kids Give Back that were given to several area
nonprofits to support elder care.
• Made 300 Power Packs for Food for Others and delivered 1,371 lbs. of food in total (with our food drive) to them following the event.
• Crafted 60 no sew fleece blankets for Capital Caring Health and made door hangers for their long-term care residents.
• Made treat bags, snuffle matts and blankets to support Fairfax County Animal Shelters.
• Made caring kits to support the Pozez Jewish Community Center’s Horizon Program which supports kids with cancer.

And now, Volunteer Fairfax plans to recognize Global Volunteer Month by acknowledging volunteers and inspiring people everywhere to get involved in simple acts of kindness; all month long we will highlight 50 Good Deeds (or more) to celebrate 50 years of civic engagement and volunteerism.

There Are Many Ways to Celebrate Volunteers
In addition to Global Volunteer Month, National Volunteer Week and Good Deeds Day provide even more ways to celebrate volunteers.

This year, National Volunteer Week takes place Sunday, April 21 through Saturday, April 27. It is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, build stronger communities and become a force that transforms the world.
Join Good Deeds Day on Sunday, April 14. This annual global day of doing good, is the pinnacle of doing good year round. This celebration has grown to include 110 countries with millions of participants.
