Like honeybees in a thriving ecosystem, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers have become an essential part of the nonprofit world—playing a key role in the chain of service. At RSVP-Northern Virginia (RSVP-NV), the honeybee has become a symbol of our volunteers’ dedication and impact. When a call for help goes out, our volunteers quickly mobilize—swarming into the community, identifying needs, and filling critical gaps with their time and care.
For the past 13 years, this important work has been made possible through a strong partnership with Volunteer Fairfax. “One volunteer might not be able to do everything, but together, we build bridges,” said Stacey Iden, RSVP-NV Program Manager. “We help get resources to the people who need them most, and we empower entire communities.”
Currently RSVP-NV has 180 active volunteers, who are directly connected and support local nonprofits, fulfilling recurrent needs, or addressing timely needs from the community. RSVP-NV volunteers also provide support during Volunteer Fairfax’s signature events and are involved in meeting other critical community needs.
RSVP-NV volunteers represent the best of America, tirelessly serving people and communities across the country and right here in Northern Virginia. “We love RSVP volunteers and are so glad for all the support they provide during our days of service, and for the needs of our nonprofit partners. We are very lucky to have so many wise and experienced Americans sharing their knowledge and skills to help our community thrive,” said Jennifer Williamson, Volunteer Fairfax, CEO.
RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is part of AmeriCorps Seniors, which focuses on making public service a central part of the American experience. If you think our mission and what we do resonates with the person you are and who you want to become in your community, or you know anyone that could be a great fit at RSVP, help us spread the word. To join, you don’t necessarily need to be retired, but it is required to be age 55 and older. At RSVP-NV you will find a place to socialize, participate in group service projects, and work toward the common goal of making Northern Virginia stronger, more resilient, and empowered.
